We collaborated with urban beekeeper Honey Fingers, urban agriculture activists 3000 Acres and creative agency triad Practise Studio Practise on a Pollination flavour range to raise awareness of one of our most important suppliers, the bee.
“Australia has a pretty healthy bee population, but it’s constantly threatened by a rapidly changing climate, exotic diseases and pesticides,” explained Nic Dowse aka Honey Fingers. “It’s important that there is a good range of bee food in our city. You can help the bees and boost the availability of this tucker by planting bee friendly pollen and nectar producing flowers.”
We released three limited edition flavours inspired by honey and flowers including Rose and Honey Nougat, Elderflower and Lychee (sorbetto) and Ricotta, Honey, Lemon and Lavender. Each flavour was topped with organic edible flowers, honey and honeycomb from our very own rooftop hives run by Honey Fingers. Every Pollination gelato came with seedlings to take home and plant to help feed the bees.
We donated 100 seedlings to 3000 Acres, a Melbourne initiative which transforms unused vacant land, grey nooks and crannies into community garden paradises. The seedlings were specifically planted at 3000 Acres’ Jewel Station community garden in Brunswick.
The creative geniuses at Practice Studio Practice also created a little film to help educate people on urban beekeeping and the pollination process.
